Kahn Higgs

Registered Clinical Psychologist

Kahn received both his Bachelor of Psychology (2004) and his Masters of Social Science in Clinical Psychology (2008) at the North-West University, South Africa. Thereafter he worked at a psychiatric hospital of which his responsibilities included assessing client needs, working as part of a multidisciplinary team, devising/monitoring appropriate treatment programs, providing psychotherapy and carrying out applied research.

In 2017 Kahn and his family immigrated to New Zealand and he was employed by Counties Manukau DHB, as a Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Coordinator to the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Community Service. This role includes supporting clients and their families within the community, offering therapeutic and culturally appropriate interventions and assessments.

Kahn has been registered with the New Zealand Psychologists Board as a Clinical Psychologist since 2017, and is an associate member of the New Zealand College of Clinical Psychologists. Prior to this he was registered as a Clinical Psychologist – Independent Practice (2008) with the Health Professions Council of South Africa.

Kahn specialise in working with children 8 years and older, adolescents and adults who might find coping with everyday life challenging – depression, anxiety, loss & grief, relationships and adjustment. He has a cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) focus and is trained in the integrated technical eclectic approach. What this usually means is that therapy combines different approaches and fuses them together to allow for the selection and implementation of techniques from a range of approaches to best fit your needs.

Kahn also offers supervision to psychologists, counsellors and other health professionals.

Kahn however does not offer forensic and child care placement services.
