Kahn received both his Bachelor of Psychology (2004) and his Masters of Social Science in Clinical Psychology (2008) at the North-West University, South Africa. Thereafter he worked at a psychiatric hospital of which his responsibilities included assessing client needs, working as part of a multidisciplinary team, devising/monitoring appropriate treatment programs, providing psychotherapy and carrying out applied research.

In 2017 Kahn and his family immigrated to New Zealand and he was employed by Counties Manukau DHB, as a Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Coordinator to the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Community Service. This role includes supporting clients and their families within the community, offering therapeutic and culturally appropriate interventions and assessments.

Kahn has been registered with the New Zealand Psychologists Board as a Clinical Psychologist since 2017, and is a member of the New Zealand College of Clinical Psychologists and an associate member of EMDRNZ. Prior to this he was registered as a Clinical Psychologist – Independent Practice (2008) with the Health Professions Council of South Africa.

Kahn specialise in working with adolescents and adults who might find coping with everyday life challenging – depression, anxiety, loss & grief, relationships and adjustment. He has a cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) focus. Kahn is also trained in the integrated technical eclectic approach, which usually means is that therapy combines different approaches and fuses them together to allow for the selection and implementation of techniques from a range of approaches to best fit your needs.

Kahn also offers supervision to psychologists, counsellors and other health professionals.

Kahn however does not offer forensic and child care placement services.

Fees

A standard session is usually $230 GST incl. (You may qualify for up to six free sessions if you are registered with your GP under the Wellness Support programme - please speak to your GP).

Payment options include cash or bank transfer on the day of the appointment.

Kahn is an Affiliated Provider to Southern Cross Health Society.
